By staying in the underbrush this tiny bird didn’t provide an opportunity for a good portrait, but because of it’s rare appearance in central New York these images may still be appreciated.

The Ruby-Crowned Kinglet

This interesting little bird was photographed in central New York on April 24, 2018, and was undoubtably in the process of migrating from the southern states to it’s breeding areas in Canada. The red stripe on its head indicates that this bird is a male, and although he was difficult to observe clearly amidst a tangle of branches he seemed quite active as can be seen in the variety of positions of it’s head, body, and distinctive yellow feet.

Detailed information from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology about this bird can be found here.
